Description

Guts is not strictly a matter of nostalgia for underground ‘rock and roll’ publications which seemed to be commonplace in the past, but acknowledgement that important genres need only their root values systems to evolve and continue today. In considering nostalgia for Eerie horror comics, Rat Fink, page 3 girls, witchcraft pulp, Analog sci-fi, Penthouse X comics, and Metal Hurlant magazines, it seemed there was an artful space here which while at face value may be said to be ‘celebrating degeneracy’, might instead be said more thoughtfully to be continuing the truer tradition of the creative expression of essentialist and natural values. And by ‘natural values’ I mean those raw and primordial moralities best exemplified in the writings of Mr. R.E. Howard.

As has been bemoaned so oft in the beer halls and swine troughs of modern pop culture: ‘everything has been emasculated’. Not everything! It is here that fans of titties and beheadings, of kicks that are juvenile yet too adult for kids, can find their missing testosterone fix of grim, fantastical nonsense. Where can be experienced that missing animalistic aura of red-in-tooth-and-claw Mithraic psych-outs, which are not censored or trite, where experiment reigns supreme! Where you must leave both your political correctness and your puritan prudishness at the door.

Guts is the kind of gritty underground gore and sex mag that will save the world.
